What are the CCSS?
- Progression of learning expectations or skills, in English language arts and math, designed to prepare kindergarten through 12th grade students to be college and career ready by the time they graduate high school
- Communicate expectations for students at each grade level so students, parents, teachers and administrators are all on the same page
- Hold all students to the same expectations for standards, regardless of where you live in the US
- Meant to be rigorous and will demand that students at all levels are sufficiently prepared to enter careers and higher education opportunities
- Aligned with college and work expectations
- Clear, understandable and consistent
- Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through higher order thinking skills
- Build on strengths and lesson of current state standards
- Informed by other top -performing countries so that all students are prepared for success in a global society
